Asia Plans World's Largest Floating Power of sunshine Project (50 MW)

India Blueprints and plans World's Largest Floating Solar Power Program (50 MW)

July 2nd, 2014 by Mridul Chadha

After canal-top solar power projects, India is looking to install the world's largest flying solar power project.

India's leading hydro power generator National Hydro Performance Corporation (NHPC) is planning to start up a 50 MW solar making use of project over the water bodies throughout southern state of Kerala. Electricity College will provide assistance to the company because implementing the project.

Under the commitment with NHPC, Renewable Energy College will cover technical know-how and assist in running the proposed floating solar power boisement. The approximate cost of the undertaking would be about $64-72 million. The machine required for the construction of the project also are sourced by the College.

This flying solar power plant technology was developed this past year by a team led by SP Gon Choudhury, Chairman of the Electricity College. With the total estimated tariff of Rs 35 lakh ($63, 600), the first pilot project is slated to be commissioned this year in Oct at a lake in the outskirts from Kolkata in West Bengal. Finally the funding for the pilot project was probably provided by the Ministry of New together with Renewable Energy (MNRE).

Solar panels will be attached to floating platforms which will be anchored stringently to avoid undulation of the panels on your surface of the water. Capital charges for this floating installation is approximately $1. 18 Million per MW via power generation cost of Rs eight ($0. 13) per unit. Each of these projects may also qualify for subsidies associated with by the state and central authorities as part of their solar policies.

Them technology is expected to offer lots more generation yield compared to the solar panels attached to the surface. Project developers would perceive substantial savings on project charges as the cost to acquire or therefore land and cost of land reclamation would not be a factor.

The ecology of the water body is not likely become affected much and it will also more affordable evaporation, thus helping preserve having water levels during extreme summer. Solar panel products installed on land, face reduction from yield as the ground heats up. Every time such panels are installed on a flying platform, the heating problem is fixed to a great extent.

"We have also been approached near Chilika Development Authority (CDA) throughout Orissa and the Kerala Airport Expertise for setting up similar facilities models. While the Chilika lake has an class of over 1, 100 square kilometre, the Airport in Kerala carries huge water body where hello facility can be set up. Such recherche could also be installed on water reservoirs from dams", said SP Gon Choudhury, chairman of the Renewable Energy College.

As soon as project by NHPC is make commision from it would replace a project in Okazaki , japan as the world's largest floating the power of sunshine plant. Last year in July 2013, West Holdings Group had make commision from 1 . 2 MW floating the power of sunshine plant over a reservoir in Okegawa City, Saitama Prefecture in Okazaki , japan. Approximately 4, 500 floating solar energy panels were installed on a surface area of approximately 12, 400 square meters in the 30, 000 square meters water body.

In India Blueprints and plans are different from execution. As you yourself pointed out Canal top solar power project of just one MW. What is the cost comparison of this valuable canal top solar project via 1 MW ground solar undertaking? Efficiency wise solar PV is a good way below wind and mini/micro hydro and biomass/biogas power because of lower solar cell efficiency. On the other hand Asia can go in a big way for biofuel/biogas power from care free production regenerative CAM plants like Sisal, Opuntia which can be grown in lots of hectares of waste lands. Paraguay is Pioneer in this.

The Kolkata wetlands (link) are famous merely because the natural sewage treatment system of the several metropolis. So they are now adding the power of sunshine to this and fish farming. Discussion on multitasking!

Indians can now instal flying utility solar for $1. a couple a watt. A pity the several technology seems to be limited for now to actually freshwater. But ruggedized it might be imaginable in sheltered marine environments together with fjords and atoll lagoons. Of Galicia mussels and scallops probably are farmed by hanging ropes between rafts, so adding solar is certainly doable.
